One of the earliest theories I came across when I started watching Gravity Falls was the rumor that Lil' Gideon Gleeful was solely based on former child preacher Larry Hal Larimore.
In the early 1,960s, at the age of 7, Larry toured the United States with his father, the Reverend Larry Sr, in a flamboyant pink Cadillac. They spread the gospel from town to town, with people drawn from all over by the stories of a young child serving sermons more passionate and learned than most adults.
Unfortunately, outside of a few newspaper clippings and a postcard or two, there isn't much information to be found about Larry Hal Larimore online. It's because of this (and the fact that I can't find any interviews with Alex Hirsch where he connects Lil' Gideon to Larry Hal Larimore) I don't believe that Gideon is based on Larry. It's most likely just a convenient coincidence.
But that doesn't mean that Larry Hal Larimore and other child preachers like Marjoe Gortner didn't influence aspects of Lil' Gideon's character. They helped provide the backbone of Gideon's tent-based sideshow-like performances!
